Bolinao, Enchanting and Relaxing

The beach of Bolinao.

Bolinao is a third class municipality of the province of Pangasinan. It is a 6-hour travel by bus north of Manila. It was a long weekend and we had to divert our footsteps to the beach instead of going to IfugaoI remember when I was in college, one of my dorm-mates used to tell me how beautiful Bolinao is. She would persuade me to come to her hometown, but for some reasons, I always turn down her invitation. This year, after 8 months of going to the mountains and rice terraces, now is my chance to go to the beach.

Bolinao Falls 1

BOLINAO FALLS

Located at Samang Norte, the Bolinao Falls 1 is a 20 ft. drop of clear water. The pool is wide and surrounded by luscious greens. We were forbidden to swim since the water was gushing heavily and the pool was so deep. Getting there from the highway was a little bit rough and muddy because of the heavy downpour the night before.

A few minutes away is the Bolinao Falls 2. Here, you can rent picnic cottages and relax for the day. The waterfalls is almost like half of the first one. You can swim and explore the place. The water is cool and greenish even in the afternoon.

THE ENCHANTED CAVE

Located in a private land at Barangay Patar, you may see fossils of corals and giant clams inside the vicinity of the resort-like place where you can also find pavilions, picnic tables, and accommodations. There are hammocks in one part of the compound and a swimming pool for children on an elevated part. The cave has been developed for easy access. It has concrete stairs inside and electricity. The water is clear and clean, and well-maintained by the owners.

ROCK VIEW BEACH

Under the hot sun, the color of this beach is bursting exquisitely. The uniqueness of its sea floor and rock formation makes it distinct from other beaches I have seen. Feel the cold water once you dip into one of its cove and secluded part by the rock formation. You may rent cottages for a day of relaxing and beach-bumming. Nipa huts are also available for overnight stays. Right in front of the beach is a small cave where there's a pool of water coming from the ocean.

CAPE BOLINAO LIGHTHOUSE
The lighthouse stands 351 feet and was built in 1903. It is located at Patar and is a very popular tourist spot in Pangasinan. It has a panoramic view of the South China Sea and the ruins beside it is a good location for pictorials with its rustic characteristic.

PATAR WHITE BEACH

A 3-kilometer stretch of off-white sand, the beach boasts of its clean bluish water and astounding sunset. It has cottages made of nipa along the shoreline. Refreshments and sari-sari (variety) stores are found in the vicinity. There were fishing boats when we were there that sells fresh catch. The beach is open to the public.

Bolinao is a haven for backpackers. There are lots of accommodations to choose from. The people are accommodating and helpful. The mode of transportation within the town is mainly tricycle. Avail of the whole day tour offered by the tricycle drivers if you want to go around the tourist spots. It is more convenient and cheaper. Souvenirs are available at the gate of Cape Bolinao Lighthouse and at Patar Beach. Buy souvenirs to help the locals.
